Zigentala 2019: YEAR IN REVIEW

Updated: Aug 11, 2023

It’s that time of the year again - the end.

To transition into the new year and honor building a habit of positive self-reflection, I’ve decided to compile a few of my 2019 achievements in this blog post. I think it’s important to celebrate any success, no matter how big or small, to help build momentum and propel us forward in life.

The ol' 2019 was a good year for Zigentala in regards to firsts, with a few learning curves on brand basics, and a couple of awesome opportunities to knuckle down and express new ideas. Here are a couple of things I tackled in the last 365 days.

FIRST COLLABORATIVE PHOTOSHOOT

Thanks to an old friend that I met at ABC about 5 years ago, I was able to experience my first collaborative studio shoot with models and a photographer (Shoutout to Jack, Lecia, and Savannah). I've always modeled in shoots, so it was insightful jumping on the other side of the camera lens and learning about creative direction, alongside some pretty talented people. I was then able to experiment with my first editorial-style location shoot with Billy Photography. I am grateful for the experience I have gained, and all of the wonderful connections I have made in the process.

MFW RUNWAY

This was big, big, BIG and probably my proudest achievement of 2019. Runway has always been something I've wanted to do, but I would never have fathomed that Zigentala would be debuting as soon as 2019! It was so special to invite along all my friends and push myself out of my comfort zone for this special event.

WEBSITE OFFICIAL (FINALLY)

I was super scared that I would sound like a broken record for another year, constantly announcing that 'My website is coming soon!' in 2019. It was so satisfying pushing this part of my business into the light, even though it nearly broke me. I jumped from Wix to Squarespace, back to Wix, and probably changed the format of the website five or six times, and that's not including all of the tedious details that went into the online shop. This experience has really educated me on all of the hidden administrative things a small business needs to operate... but I know I still have so much to learn!

FIRST CREATIVE SPACE

SUPRISE! Call it a studio, call it an office... to top 2019 off I have officially moved into my own creative space separated from my house. More information coming soon, but this is an intentional step in a direction that will hopefully solidify my creative routine by establishing a balance between work and home. I've always worked from home, but now with some inventory expansion, I've decided to take the plunge and trial this for the new year. Wish me luck!

MOVING FORWARD

The following is my creative mantra for 2020.

With a mind rooted in gratitude and abundance, push forward from a place of love.

It sounds very wishy-washy, but this is what my brain needs at the moment. I had a few existential waves this year that saw me wallow away in stress and self-pity (ew). I am so ready to put that all in the BIN, stop worrying about the future, be grateful for what I have, and walk directly and intentionally in the light of my love for art.

A big thank you for the continuous support I have received from friends, family, and fans near and far. I hope you all can reflect positively on 2019 (mistakes and all), and walk into the new year with fresh energy.

'Til the next post,

Lilith x
